A New Name: The One Institute
March 26, 2014
The Board of Directors of the oldest LGBTQ non-profit organization in the United States is excited to announce their new name: the One Institute. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, the One Institute collects, preserves, and protects LGBTQ history, art, and culture in collaboration with ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at the USC Libraries, the largest collection of LGBTQ materials in the world.
To provide access to and greater public awareness of the collections at ONE Archives at the USC Libraries, the One Institute presents and supports programs, exhibitions, and educational initiatives to share the LGBTQ experience with diverse communities worldwide. Originally named ONE Inc. and known by several other names in its 62-year-history, the One Institute has always been committed to the growth, protection, and success of LGBTQ history and culture. Under its new name, the One Institute will continue this critical work.
Not only is the One Institute a fundraising arm for the collections at ONE, but our initiatives provide vital structural and programming support, ensuring that the collections are housed appropriately, new collections are found and preserved, scholars are encouraged to use the collections through fellowships or stipends, and interns are encouraged to start their careers in archiving at ONE.
The Board of Directors of the One Institute is committed to the continued growth and success of the archives, and looks forward to working to ensure their long-term preservation and public engagement.
